Intellimar Hits Inc. 500 List as Washington, D.C.'s Fastest Growing Security Company

SYKESVILLE, MD Oct 27, 2004 Intellimar, Inc. was named the fastest growing security company in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and the 2nd fastest growing security company in America on Inc. magazine's 23rd annual Inc. 500 list, a ranking of the 500 fastest growing privately held businesses in America.

Intellimar posted a four-year average annual revenue growth rate of 2,718 percent to make its debut on the 2004 Inc. 500 list announced on October 18, 2004. Intellimar ranks 34th overall among the country's fastest growing companies. Washington, D.C. is the top metropolitan area on the Inc. 500 list for the second year in a row with 29 companies.

"This celebrated achievement is a testament to our employees and the trust and confidence that our customers and business partners have placed in us," said Intellimar President and CEO Mark Oakes. "This phenomenal growth is only possible as the result of a team effort."

Intellimar was formed in 1996 as a "one-stop" shop for physical security solutions, a market Oakes saw as underserved with the security market focused primarily on electronic security solutions. Intellimar (along with its federal division, GovSupply) provides turnkey security solutions -- including site assessments; design, installation and construction; service; and warranty -- ranging from vehicle barriers, guard booths, architectural precast concrete barriers, and security hardware to blast resistant doors and windows. This vision has paid off as company sales of physical security solutions have continually increased with booked contracts approaching $17M for 2003.

To be eligible for this year's Inc. 500, companies had to be independent and privately held through their fiscal year 2003; have had at least $200,000 in net sales in the base year of 2000; and $2 million in net sales for 2003. In addition, their 2003 sales had to exceed 2002 sales. Companies are ranked on average year-over-year sales growth. Inc. verifies all information using tax forms and audited financial statements from certified public accountants, as well as through interviews conducted with company officials.

"The best thing you can say about this year's crop of Inc. 500 entrepreneurs is that they didn't buy into the hype," said Inc. Editor-in- Chief John Koten. "When people were practically giving away funding in the late 1990s, these companies didn't overextend, and when everyone hit the panic button a few years later, they stayed calm and seized opportunity."

Over the years, the Inc. 500 list has identified the next generation of world-class companies, with Microsoft, Timberland, Oracle, E*TRADE, Intuit, and Domino's Pizza all appearing on the list before they became industry powerhouses.

"We are truly honored to receive this prestigious award. The challenges we face as a nation to protect our homeland are significant, and the vision, innovation and dedication of entrepreneurs will solve many of these challenges," said Oakes. "This award is a testament to the hard work of all the employees of Intellimar. We will continue to innovate with new products, services and customer solutions to meet growing demands of the security market."

In addition to being named to the 2004 Inc. 500, Oakes has also been named the 2004 Ernst & Young Maryland Entrepreneur-of-the-Year and is the recipient of the Baltimore Future 50 Award.
